Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmy Ellison.
Emmy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My passion for design and textiles can be traced back to my childhood. My mother was an interior decorator, who curated a beautiful environment that I was fortunate enough to be raised in. Without knowing, it gave me an education on the importance of surrounding yourself with objects that bring you joy. For me, every rug I hand select in Morocco brings me joy. I fall in love with every piece and imagine where I could place it in my life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have yet to meet a small business owner who has had a smooth road. All of it is hard, but you keep pushing because your life just wouldn’t make sense without it. With that said, my most obvious challenge is that my small company exists out of Morocco.
I’ve had to adapt to a different way of doing business because I am dealing with an entirely different culture and way of life. Simple day to day transactions can be difficult, but you have to admire and respect a culture that has been in the making for thousands of years.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with DeMaroc Home – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
DeMaroc Home was created out of my passion for textiles and design. During my first trip to Morocco, I fell in love with the vibrant culture, rich history, and people of the country. Our mission at DeMaroc Home is to celebrate, appreciate, and curate objects of beauty that can be found all around the world.
