Meet Emily Park and Esther Paik of Le Box Blanc in EMILY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Park and Esther Paik.

Emily and Esther, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
EMILY: I am an entrepreneur and mother of three. My journey initially began in corporate accounting. I made a major career shift in 2005 when I joined my husband to learn his casino business.

After five years of learning the ropes, I caught the entrepreneurial bug and switched gears once more, this time to focus on my own retail store. Having always been drawn to fashion and styling, my decision to open a contemporary women’s boutique came as a natural evolution.

ESTHER: Having grown up the eldest child of Korean immigrant business owners, my expectations were set high for my career path from the start. I watched as my parents ran their own business with few resources.

While the decision to open a store wasn’t originally part of my plan, I couldn’t help but see the exciting potential within the opportunity. My career also began in corporate accounting. Switching roles from accountant to business owner proved to be a valuable and prosperous transition.

With endless hours of studying for CPA exams under my belt and mastery of excel skills, my knack for numbers helped me navigate through our retail venture.

THE COMPANY: We started out with two laptops and an empty desk in Emily’s pool house! We drew inspiration from all over the web, walked some trade shows, and launched our e-comm site two months later. With incremental goals each season, we started growing. Now, we have a warehouse in downtown, a brick and mortar store, and (we think) the best team ever to grow with!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
EMILY + ESTHER: Building the business has not been smooth, but we have grown and learned from every challenge encountered. The most surprising thing we learned was how far consistency and following basics can take us. Return emails. Submit orders on time. Listen to our customers. The basics definitely got us to where we are now.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Le Box Blanc – what should we know?
EMILY + ESTHER: Our store offers a haven for stylish women seeking not only to keep their closet staples current but also to indulge in fresh and of-the-moment statement pieces. Featuring a carefully curated selection of some of the most sought-after brands, each style within the store is hand-picked with the refined aesthetic of our customers in mind.

We pride ourselves in bringing well-curated brands and styles, season after season. However, what we cherish the most is the personal shopping experience that we offer in-store. We text with our customers, wish them happy birthdays, and style them for special events, daily work wear, travel, and even stroller walks! We say hi when they walk by with their dogs and hide surprise gifts from husbands. We walk over same day deliveries to local residents, and each box or bag we pack up is like packing a gift, tied with a ribbon.

Not to be overly sentimental, but this personal and elevated experience is what we love the most about us! The intimate and individualized aspect of customer experience, coupled with the convenience of our full concierge program, puts us apart from other traditional boutiques and attributes to our success.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
EMILY: I think the quality that has been the most important to get off our feet has been to stop being afraid to try things.

  • We have denim starting at $200.
  • Most of our special occasion items (dresses, shoes, accessories) range up to $650.
