Meet Emily Lamb of Shear Eclips in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Lamb.

Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I had turned 18, I was in the final months of high school and I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to pursue as a career. A friend of mine mentioned that she was going to join Cosmology School to learn about becoming a makeup artist and referred me to attend. When I looked into the program, I was initially interested in the skincare courses that were going to be provided. So, we joined the school willing to take in all of the information possible to contribute to our careers. After being introduced to hairstyling, I fell in love with everything about it! Coloring and cutting hair quickly became my creative outlet. Making people feel beautiful and confident is the best feeling! As soon as cosmetology school ended, I went to work at Shear Clips Salon as a receptionist, hoping that would get my foot in the door, so I could later assist the owner of the salon.

After about a year or so, I was promoted to being an assistant! Taking this position was the best thing I could have done for my career. Assisting gave me the confidence I needed to start building a successful brand for my self. I work at the most amazing salon with the greatest, most supportive group of people. It’s a blessing to be able to wake up every day and go to a job that you love doing.

Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest struggle when it comes to my profession is being my own worst critic. I feel I’m very hard on my self as an artist and sometimes I put more stress in my life than there needs to be.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Shear Eclips story. Tell us more about the business.
In the salon, I specialize in color. Color lets me be as expressive as I want! There are endless possibilities because no two heads are the same. I realized my passion for coloring when I was an assistant. My boss taught me how to have fun while creating beautiful works of art on peoples hair. Making people feel beautiful is the most rewarding part of my job. Another skill I specialize in is braiding. I am able to do all sorts of braids on people. You can get so creative with them. My favorite style when it comes to braiding is 2 dutch braids with added hair that has fun colors! I usually do this style on clients who are going to festivals and they come back with the cutest pictures!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The hair and fashion industry are constantly changing. One thing I learned, is that you have to keep your self up to date on the latest trends in order to educate your clients.
