Meet Emily Jimison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Jimison.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I looked for any excuse to be social and creative. Always putting off my math homework to draw on Lisa Frank products, dig into my mom’s makeup or convince my sister to let me do her hair. I have to give credit to my parents because instead of looking at it as a negative, they embraced it. They have always pushed me to follow that creative side.

After I got my degree at the University of Arizona, I was at an average entry-level job (like I thought I was “supposed” to do). Feeling like it wasn’t the right fit, I looked into cosmetology school. I took a huge leap of faith, quit my job, got my license and moved to LA. I set aside my savings and told myself that I had until it ran out to make this work.

I moved to La, got straight to work and never looked back. Took jobs that were little pay, but knew would help me in the long run. I got to learn under some incredible artists and had some once in a lifetime opportunities. The city of dreams has been so good to me and I thank my lucky stars that I was able to meet so many amazing people and work on perfecting my craft.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not, but nothing easy is worth having. There will always be obstacles in life, whether it’s personal or professional. It’s how you respond to those challenges that make you successful. There is a very valuable lesson in every obstacle.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I pride myself on being versatile. I like the challenge of doing something outside of my comfort zone. I’ve done all types of work from heavy camera makeup to barely their skin campaigns to everyday applications. I have to say my favorite has become prepping and skin care. Taking care of your skin is KEY in the application of makeup.

I’ve loved it so much so that I started a skincare/cosmetics line called Seven Seven Cosmetics. I have worked with some of the best chemists on the west coast to source pure ingredients and develop effective formulas to help clients achieve flawless skin.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
It’s the city of dreams, you have every opportunity at your feet if you’re willing to hustle and go get it. A lot of times the struggle is patience. People think you will get a big break, or that it will happen overnight, but in reality, it’s consistency and hard work that gets you closer to success.
