Today we’d like to introduce you to Elsa Melero.
Elsa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Barcelona but I grew up in a little town in the mountains near the French border. I went to Barcelona to pursue my studies. I graduated from law school and I finally went to Los Angeles to do what I had in my head for so many years. That’s how I ended up taking my hobby as my job.
Now I work as a Photographer and I also had the chance to learn about filmmaking and felt in love with all the aspects of it. Something that was a dream all my life started to happen. I had the opportunity to meet people that brought me on set and started to trust me. This is how I also ended up doing Production Design which I relate a lot with Photography.
I feel that to be in Los Angeles made me grow a lot as a creative and I think that to work in two different arts helps me a lot to understand better one and another, they are so complimentary.
Has it been a smooth road?
Rollercoaster, not smooth. If it was easy it wouldn’t be fun. There is a lot of struggles along the path, especially when you are not from here but I guess it makes the road more exciting. I had a lot of opportunities to work because ‘this is America’ but at the beginning, I worked a lot for free or for very low rates and I think that is the main struggle. That said, in the end, I think it’s worth it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Elsa Melero – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work as a freelance Photographer and Production Designer. When I work in Photography, I like to write short stories for brands, not only create beautiful images that sell well. I like the storytelling to be the main aspect in the project.
I am also building with other amazing creatives a collective named Oasis Club which goal is to create narrative stories for brands in still and moving pictures. That is a very exciting project that we hope we will be running soon.
I also work as a Production Designer and I am in love with it. I am the responsible for the visual concept of a film music video, commercial or short film. Right now I am working on my second feature film which is very exciting.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love about LA that the people I meet are completely in love with what they do. I love that there are movie theaters, screening rooms, DIY projections, outdoor screenings and local film events everywhere.
I don’t like that it’s not that easy to gather with people if you want to improvise, you kind of have to plan everything and can’t be that spontaneous.
