Meet Elliott Hampton of Nobetterphotography in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elliott Hampton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I never really knew what I wanted to do as a career or a dream job when I was young, I had always suspected that since I was good at sports, I should just stick with that, but I felt like there was always something missing. The moment I got out of High school, I started hanging out with friends and not really doing much else.

So one day I was hanging out with my friend at her house and I noticed her camera on the ground, she told me her grandmother gave it to her but she never really uses it, so I asked her if I could play around with it for a bit and that whole day I spent taking pictures and I felt like I could do it all day, so I asked her if I could borrow it for a while and I ended up taking the camera for over five months just taking pictures of things and people and posting it on Instagram and Facebook. It turned out that people really liked my photos and started to ask me to take pictures or them so I ended up working up enough money to get my own camera and started taking pictures on a regular, now fast forward five years later I’ve built up my own company and made so many connections.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve definitely had a lot of struggles along the way, I’ve had times where I would get so frustrated with myself kind of like a writer’s block but with pictures, I would ask people to shoot and they would say yes then bail the very last moment. I once completely shattered my lens and had to work up to but a whole new add on.

Starting out in the business people didn’t know who I was so I couldn’t really get paying customers, most people thought I was just doing it for fun and I got called an amateur and that I was good at my “ Hobby”. It was a few years before anyone took me really serious and saw that I wasn’t just doing this as a hobby but as a career and something that I genuinely loved to do.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nobetterphotography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
In nobetterphotography, I am the DP (directory of photography) and I not only do my own photoshoots but I oversee other photo sessions that I attend. I usually am known for my portraits but I’ve been expanding and going outside of my comfort range with different styles of shooting.

The thing that sets me apart from others Is that I really get to know the person or people that I’m shooting. They aren’t just another picture to me but an important part of my day that I want to fully involve myself with. I want to hear the stories behind everyone’s life and what makes them smile or feel alive. A picture could mean a thousand things I want my pictures to me something genuine from those in-front of my camera.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I really really hate LA traffic, it is the worst! I have almost been late to shoots before because of traffic! But what I do love about LA is that its a wonderful place to site see with a bunch of interesting faces and amazing things to try out.
