Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Nucci.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I ditched an office job at 25 years old to pursue acting again (I was briefly a child actor). I waited tables and learned to bartend to make ends meet. One of the companies I worked for asked me to help manage an event and then I continued to bug them and insisted I work in the office. That was 2004, I quickly realized I had a passion for events and not acting. I began working full time in the office while still bartending and managing events.
For the next 12 years, I revolved my whole life around work. I knew this is what moved me and I gave it my all. I learned everything as I did it. I barely had a community college education but I was always passionate about working. I knew that. I had a strong work ethic that I’m sure I inherited from my parents. I enjoyed giving people jobs and constantly being around people. It definitely had its perks as well as hardships. I left in June of last year with no plan, I just knew I wasn’t growing and it wasn’t good for me or the company I worked for. I wanted to make my own decisions and be creative. As someone who’s pretty hard headed I just knew I needed to do something else. When I announced my departure on social media the opportunities started to come in. I quickly realized that I had a skill and I wanted to use it and that’s when EN Events came to fruition.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve been blessed with a great support system of friends, family, employees and clients. Everything has been referral based for the most part. It certainly has its challenges. I didn’t know much about owning a business or paying business Taxes (ouch). I did my research and I figured it out. I made mistakes and I made great decisions. I am still learning.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I like to think of myself as the Macgyver of Events. I pretty much do it all. Planning, Catering, staffing, consulting, permits etc. I think people know me mostly as somewhat of a Bar or Permit specialist. I am the most proud of working. It’s not an easy business and is extremely competitive but a lot of my competitors are mentors, friends and even clients.
What sets me apart? Hmmm that’s a great question…. I’ll tell you what I think people would say. I am extremely organized and I take care of my staff. I’m also very straight forward and I wear my heart on my sleeve. Probably not always the best trait but I am who I am and you definitely get what you see.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’ve been in LA since the age of 7 so I am pretty much a native. I can’t even imagine what it would be like it be anywhere else but I think LA can be difficult, I see a lot of friends struggling. I don’t know about other cities but here I definitely think it’s about people…who you know, how you treat others, what people say about you, referrals, references, recommendations etc. I really admire people that come here knowing not a soul and doing well.
I know in my business the city can be cautious, I think we need more real life input and less politics.
