Meet Elizabeth Phillips of EM Creative in El Segundo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Phillips.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My background is in the social impact space. I spent a few years in-house at ONEHOPE and rebranded the company during my time there. For the past couple years, I was managing a team of designers at a digital marketing company, Wpromote. Three months ago, I made the leap and went full-time freelance.
I am finding my way back to working with brands that empower others and have business models that give back.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Managing a team was a struggle for me at first. In my role at the agency, I worked on brand strategy with clients, managed client relationships and led a design team. The transition from living and breathing one brand for years to working with up to 20+ clients per week was a huge shift for me.

I was also a fairly young Art Director, so I struggled with imposter syndrome for a bit when I was given such a large role in the department.

Please tell us about EM Creative.
I like to say that it is my job to use my branding + design powers for good.

I work with businesses of all sizes to create and establish brand strategy, identity and messaging. I’m obsessed with helping brands reach their full potential. I also do everything from packaging design, to creating concepts for photo shoots.

I think what sets me apart from others is my understanding of brand communication. I believe that the communication process between brands and their audiences should be as seamless as possible. I also am fortunate to have a very supportive and talented network of friends and colleagues. Whoever works for me will almost always hear, “Oh, I have a copywriter, strategist, video editor for that!”

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood – that is tough!

My grandparents had a beach house in Del Mar and my family would go down to stay there for at least a week every year. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve the beach, bonfires and BBQs in San Diego.
