Meet Elizabeth Eichhorn of Ampersand Dinner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Eichhorn.

Elizabeth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m all about building authentic community. Too many times, I would go into networking events or team building exercises feeling unseen. One night, after one of these events, I came away feeling frustrated by the lack of connection. I talked to a lot of folks that night, but the conversation fell flat when all we did was talk about our companies. My company wasn’t as bright and shiny as others and I left feeling small. Is that all networking can be—showing off what we have already accomplished?

What if there was a space where you were able to talk about who you are, instead of who you work for? Your hopes and dreams instead of your resumes? Maybe even a space to discuss your ideas? What if the space was over delicious food and drinks?

I began the events with a group of friends at a local restaurant. There were six of us. I knew everyone and what they did for work, but no one else did. There were two rules: (1) No last names. (2) No talking about what you do for a living.

That’s it. Pretty simple. We ate great food, had amazing conversations, and connections were made. Real authentic connections. Two years later, I have taken my hobby full time and have created events not just for networking but also for team building for your company.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a female entrepreneur and failing in my former company, there are countless struggles and hurdles. Now that I am on my second business, I know a lot more about the process now, but still find it difficult to make sure that I am a success.

I have healthier boundaries than I once did and am excited about future possibilities. Jealousy and competition is probably the roadblock that I encounter most of the time. But, when I realized that we are all trying to find clients and work towards success, then I just made sure to refocus on my own journey. I have found that the best way to do that is to uplift your competitors. There is a seat for everyone at the table.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Ampersand is all about connecting people over food and conversation. Whether it’s a team-building workshop, a networking event, or even a fundraising dinner, our goal is always the same: for people to leave feeling seen and appreciated.

I’m proud of the space that I have created. It is welcome to all people and we make sure that all dietary needs are met. People are breaking bread, drinking wine, and sharing their authentic selves.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Texas. Wide open spaces, beautiful sunsets, and lots and lots of oil wells. Art, dance, and church choir were on my hobby rotation throughout my childhood, but so was the UIL math club (yep, I was a “mathlete”). I have lived in a crossroads of two selves my whole life. The creative and analytical. Lawyer and artist. Being an entrepreneur combines a lot of my passions.

My family was highly involved in church, so we grew up in a very communal type setting. Our house was always open to friends, and even once we got a code on our garage, everyone still knew the code.

  • Dinners are usually around $65

Elizabeth’s work is deliciously beautiful. Her variety of life experiences and stories create a deeply unique experience through community dining. Elizabeth’s background in hospitality, the food industry, ethics & decor are notable in the experiences I’ve partaken in. I strongly recommend & encourage her services, especially for those with crazy allergies. Thanks for being a great host! I’ll be coming back.
