Meet Elisa Baran in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Baran.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there. Hi there! My name is Elisa Baran, I’m 25 years old and originally from Long Island, New York. I grew up amongst a real estate family and learned a lot from watching my parents work. I moved here when I was 17 to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I had always wanted to be a fashion designer, so I started working part-time for a fashion PR firm in West Hollywood while attending school full-time. I also launched my own fashion line towards the end of my college years. My whole life I was always working with my hands, creating, and I couldn’t get enough of it. I didn’t necessarily care what I was doing, but as long as I could create and inspire, I was happy. I still feel that way to this day. After graduating and trying to push my fashion line along, I realized I wanted more than just fashion and went back to my roots of real estate. I obtained my real estate license in the Summer of 2015 and started showing houses and really got to see what buyers wanted in a home and what they were willing to pay for a property designed properly and in a good location. It wasn’t enough for me to just show and help facilitate the sale of homes. I wanted to be the one building them and designing them. With an investors help, I purchased my first home in West Hollywood and flipped it in less than a year. It sold before it could go to market and that’s when I realized this was what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life. The feeling was invigorating and I will never say no to a new project and learning experience, no matter how difficult it seems. I crave a good learning experience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way? It has not! 1. I dealt and still deal with tons of contractor nightmares and went through about 15 different ones. I finally have a solid team that I’m so proud of, but it took patience and constant communication. 2. I’m constantly in my head about what materials to choose for these properties because I know how opinionated people can be. I want to make sure I’m representing myself and my brand, but I also have to keep in mind that people love certain materials and color schemes so I have to cut back in a lot of areas. I have to sell in order to buy again and keep creating and building! 3. In the beginning I would often get infuriated about how slow certain things were moving such as the planning process of a home or even worse, the approval process in the city planning and development department. I’m a very decisive person so when things take a long time, I get uptight, especially being a New Yorker and wanting everything done in a flash. I’ve learned to slow down and let the process happen organically and if I do my part perfectly and as quickly as I can, then rest will fall into place. One night while drinking some dandelion tea, the tea tag had a quote that resonated with this topic perfectly and a reminder for myself. The quote is by Lao Tzu and reads, “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

Elisa Baran, LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition? I am a real estate agent in West Hollywood. I am also an interior designer and project manager of real estate projects all over LA. I also have a blog where I share my passion for cooking and the fashion industry. I try to update my followers on all of the above every day, because I am very passionate about all of these things.

I would say I’m most proud of my team and how far we have come. It was hard to find a trustworthy contractor that wouldn’t take advantage of the classic nickel and dime reputation that most contractors have. I’ve built a team of 1 GC, 3 plumbers, 2 electricians, 5 demo guys (I jump in for the first day of demo ;)), 3 rough framers and dry wall guys, an engineer and architect, cabinetry fabricator and installer, marble and granite slab fabricator and installer, and my favorite person to work with is my 3D rendering designer, Sasha.

I think just being true to myself and sharing what I love is enough to set me apart from others. I just want to be able to express myself whether it’s through interior design or fashion or cooking and even overall health, I hope people become inspired and motivated to do more! My mom would always say to me, “Elisa, the more you do, the more you can do.”

What is “success” or “successful” for you? Success to me is happiness. I know, how cliché right? But really, there will never be a limit to success for me. When I hit a goal of mine, I’m of course very happy. But then I’m quickly setting new goals to achieve, and the journey to that goal also brings me happiness. So, I don’t need to reach a certain point in my life to have success defined. For me it’s about how I got there staying true to myself and brightening other people’s lives along the way. That’s my success and it’s brought through happiness.
