Meet Unicorn Skull

Today we’d like to introduce you to Unicorn Skull.

Unicorn Skull, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Before I came up with the Unicorn Skull concept, I was Djing under different DJ names and everything was really smooth besides one fact – it wasn’t really me. I was making and studying music since 14 years old. I was such a metalhead and literally hated electronic scene at that moment. For me, it was just a noise and I was really enjoying playing guitar in a metal school band. But I remember how everything started changing in 2011-2012. I heard Skrillex and bunch of other electronic producers such as Borgore, The Upbeats, NOISIA and etc. Those guys started changing my taste. That music was fresh and new. It wasn’t just a noise anymore; it was giving me a cool mixture of different emotions and power. Thats definitely a real story of me switching to EDM scene. I was Djing under different artist names at 19-22 years old. But one day I realized that something was really off- I forgot about my background. I never showed people how important rock was to me and how I love everything weird. Being weird and cool is a key to my music right now.

Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth because at that moment I lived in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. And I didn’t find any opportunities for myself in EDM in Saint-Petersburg for that moment. My biggest struggle was to come here and start doing at least something connected to music. And thats what actually happened.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m proud of writing music that shows my personality and inspires people. I would say that I specialize in writing uncommon chord progressions and weird melodies. Its a mixture of the great melody and energy. Don’t really know which genre my music belongs to. The most important thing what you feel.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a perfect place for the all talented people across the world. I’m very lucky to be surrounded by all these amazing artists.
