Meet Edoardo Chavarin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edoardo Chavarin.

Edoardo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started in Tijuana, México. I’ve always been a music fan, some of my earliest music memories are listening to The Beatles, Devo and The Beachboys with my father, but also to Vicente Fernandez, José José and Julio Iglesias.

I also remember trying to draw the logos I saw on record covers on my school notebook in the 8th grade, I was really drawn to typography at an early age. Bands like Metallica, Pink Floyd, Ozzy Osbourne had amazing logotypes and record covers. Some of which still hold up today.

It was always a dream of mine to do creative work for the music industry. After finishing high-school in México, I decided to start working my way up to LA to go to art school. A few years later, I was accepted to Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. It wasn’t easy, I had two jobs and the program was very demanding, but I enjoyed every second of it.

As I was about to finish the Graphics and Packaging program at Art Center (around 1999) I started networking and through different friends and circumstances I ended up with an Internship at A&M Records, I met the team that started Coachella and became good friends with legendary producer Gustavo Santaolalla. I’m very grateful because all these people trusted me very early and gave me great opportunities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road at all. Coming from a middle-class family in México and attending a private art school in Pasadena is definitely a big challenge. I remember my parents and family being very supportive, having to hold numerous jobs, etc.

But it was also a lot of fun! The hustle, the late nights, being broke, I enjoyed every second of it. I wouldn’t change a thing, it made me who I am.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I now have a small creative studio in the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area. We specialize in branding projects, I have a small amazing team and we also love to collaborate with other artists and designers.

We have been lucky enough to work with some great clients such as The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Some of my favorite bands like; Molotov, The National, Chicano Batman, and Bill Evans just to mention a few. We have also worked with Athletes, Actors, Wineries, Spirits Brands, etc.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Just the basics. Being nice goes a long way, over delivering for clients, learning, being a team player and most importantly surrounding yourself with amazing talented people.
