Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebonie Speight.
Ebonie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got to where I am today thanks to my stress and anxiety lol. Not ideal, but my anxiety was so bad that it pushed me to look for different outlets to take my mind off of the things that were stressing me out. I would do video journals on my computer because it made me feel better, so one day, I was like maybe I should start a YouTube. I am really comfortable in front of a camera so it was fun for me. Then learning how to edit your videos was a task within itself so before I knew it my time was consumed with something that I loved and I didn’t have time to stress and worry about things like I was before.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far so good. I never made my YouTube channel to get a bunch of followers but I noticed once I did people took to my personality and started to watch my videos. I have been getting a lot of positive feedback. People always say how helpful My videos are to them and that makes me feel good. I’m helping myself and, at the same time, helping others.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m not sure what I would label myself as. I hate the word influencer but I guess you can say I introduce people to new things lol. On my YouTube and social media, I review different products that I personally love. Once, I become obsessed with something I introduce it to my followers. From doing that I have been blessed to work with some of my favorite brands. My IG followers mostly know me from doing vegan food reviews. I’m not vegan so once I discovered “Plantbased with Paris” I could not stop raving about it. So now, every Sunday, I do a post called “Vegan Sunday” where I am reviewing my food for that day. My YouTube followers know me for my cheap yet cute clothing hauls reviews and Travel vlogs. I am most proud of myself for finding ways to help with my mental health by using YouTube and my social media platform as an outlet. I am able to be my most true and authentic self and I think that sets me apart from others. I don’t care about numbers. Creating the videos just makes me feel good and if it makes at least one other person feel good then I am happy with that.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My personality definitely is key to my success. For some reason, people think I’m funny lol. People always say I make them laugh. I think I’m pretty relatable so maybe that’s what draws people in.
