Meet Dymphna Janse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dymphna Janse.

Dymphna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born in Breda in the South of the Netherlands. I am the youngest of three and have the most lovely mom and dad. When I was young, I was into every hobby you can have. I did really good in sports and had a moment wanting to become a professional tennis player.

Not short after this focus I got into musicals as a singer and actress. This was such a fun expression that I sticked to that for a while next to finishing school. Also got into playing drums. I remember I was six years old starting with drums. Always had this rhythm inside myself that I had to give an outlet. Years after on high school, I got into modeling through my sister that signed me up for a contest. Never really knew what that world was about, but people told me I was skinny and tall – I would do great. As all my hobbies and school got a bit much together, I decided to just focus on school and do modeling on the side to grow and learn through that experience. It went really well and before I was even really aware what was happening, I moved to Paris. (did finish school). I started working and traveling all over.

From Paris, I moved to London, then to NY. NY was an intense couple of years. Everything went really well. Lovely jobs, travels, new people, adventures. But my body stopped wanting to move mid-2014. I was completely depleted from all experiences. I literally had no idea what was happening, but I had to break all relationships with work and family and friends. My being wanted to live in silence on the beach in LA to figure out who I really was and what I actually enjoy doing in life. Years after I started doing all the things I used to do when I was younger. Picked up singclasses, acting courses, playing tennis. I went also through a spiritual journey and it all brought me to my core of joy.

Two years ago, I learned myself music software and started making beats. This grew into songs and finally dared to drop my first album in January 2019. It feels really liberating to have find an expression that comes from such raw inner life. Within music I started to also go to different dance classes. Contact Improv is really amazing. I am happy to have find an exciting journey that combines raw body movement and a voice. Would be amazing to bring this big inner life to an outside reality. I live in LA and follow every day what my inner life needs to express or be in. Also picked up modeling again a little while ago as it feels right to open up in different fields.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Eveything went smooth till my body said no in July 2014. I first got into the doctor/medicine world, but happily soon enough I got myself through a spiritual journey that took me a good couple of years to be completely one with all. Life is giving me very big teachings since. I feel like once you show the universe you can deal with big challenges, it gives you more. They kind up funny up there.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My name Dymphna felt right to use as my artist name Dymph. I started making my own music two years ago and it feels really good to express inner feelings. I just want to use whatever comes to me, a beat, a rhythm, a word and eventually a world. As long as I can express myself in the most rawest way in music and videos that are in alignment with my body language, I feel alive and excited. Also, live performances feel right in this field. It gives me a breathing journey within and it would be beautiful to give this to the world. I am excited about all that comes.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My being needs music, a voice, a dance, a world to express. Nature, sports, breathing space, inspiring people and travels. Success to me is just being completely raw and honest with yourself every day again. Act on people, places and things that resonate with your energy and life flows naturally. I am surprised every day with life synchronicity.
