Meet Dylan Berry of SmashHaus in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Berry.

Dylan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born on Mt. St. Helens, it exploded and I ended up in Seattle, I got signed to Sony at age 19, left the band to jump on a short tour with members of Fishbone, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Funkadelic, Spearhead and landed in L.A. with $400 in my wallet (Garage sale money) and slept on studio floors.

I got a day job in film and TV to earn money support my music dream and worked up to Art Director, I caught a break as a composer on for a special called Killing Pablo on History Channel.

Fast forward five years, I couldn’t scale my biz so I built technology to efficiently manage composers all over the world, I embedded in the top Post Production Houses in Hollywood to win clients and ended up providing music for most of the top TV shows, Oscars, American Idol, Time Warner Sportsnet (& proudly the Lakers theme…) earning millions for indie artists around the globe.

When COVID hit, I decided to remove myself as a “Middle-Man” and help music makers globally to earn income and relationships directly in Hollywood. With tours slashed, musicians struggling, my goal now is to support them with the tools they need to earn music (MONEY) from home, where ever home may be.

I also am the Program Director of Soundcloud Radio and Host their Emerging Artist and Celeb interview shows as well as a partner in Nordic.LA which connects the best creators in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland and Finland to those in Los Angeles and beyond. I am also founder of a secret society of leaders in the music biz.

My work is about bypassing the gatekeepers and empowering artists to succeed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a constant chainsaw juggling experiment and along hard-fought rise. Most of the struggles were educating creative people on how to break, go around, under or disrupt the establishment of the industry that for so long has abused its privilege. I consider myself a renegade disruptor in a business that is typically trying to bottle the magic but not to preserve the well being of those who create it. 😉

SmashHaus – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My father calls me a “materializer” because I can find income in the strangest things and using creativity as the commodity. Haha. I use my ideas and lean on trusted relationships to materialize art and culture as a business.

I am a Music Producer, Creative Director first / Talk Show host second / and mad serial Entrepreneur, connector third. “Moto” to my “efforts resulting in a long career in the biz has been to build” a large, strong network of creative, industry and influencers making it possible to do big things.

My favorite book is “The Way Things Work”. I invest my time into people capable of doing amazing things and big ideas that drive those people and my love for the way things work.

What makes me different? I have been told that, I i’d rather try to move Mt. Everest with a wheelbarrow than give up. I just don’t believe in limiting the human spirit, it is all possible in my mind and if not us, then who?

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
THAT is impossible to say. I can say that I was very proud to hear the song I had written with a dear friend Chris Cheney (The Living End), something real and honest, play during the Super Bowl of Australia, the AFL Final for 100,000 fans and millions on TV. That was amazing!

Also, surviving and thriving and helping others do the same in the most competitive business in the world, Music. Very proud of that!

Actually part of the Aria Nominated “Best Rock Album” that year. Didn’t win but got a nod. 🙂
