Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Ardine.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dustin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m an actor in Los Angeles. I started acting when I was 6 years old after I was picked out of the audience at Universal Studios to take part in their Star Trek Experience and have been acting ever since. I come from a middle-class family with no connections in the acting world, so I started acting in school and going after auditions anywhere I could find them. I have acted in many repertory theaters all across the USA. I’m a classically trained Method Actor, and pride myself on being as versatile as possible and have played a vast array of character and leading roles from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams. My drive to be the very best actor I could be lead me to study all the greatest industry teachers. I studied at the renowned Academy of Art University under the tutelage of Hollywood leading lady Diane Baker, and at the famed New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. When I came out to Los Angeles, I had no money and knew no one in the industry. I slept in my car for nearly two years while finishing acting school and worked all the side jobs I could to eat. But I refused to give up on my dream and kept working as hard as possible every day. Now, I have just wrapped my first feature film that I was the lead for called “Ariadne”. Also, a short film that I was the lead for called “Birth” was just officially selected into the short film corner at Cannes Film Festival. And I just got word that I have won my 8th Best Actor award. Also, I have recently opened my own production company called “Dreamachine Productions”. And our first feature film called: “Proving Ground” is in pre-production right now. I’m happy to announce that not only do we have renowned director Joel Bender onboard but also that I will be starring opposite the amazing actress Dominique Swain. Shooting is supposed to begin this fall. After that, I will be traveling to Africa for 3 months to shoot a different feature film called “Religion” which I have been cast as the lead for.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road. It has been a long and extremely difficult Road with many many obstacles that I have had to overcome. As I said, I come from a middle-class family. My mother is a nurse and my dad is a mailman. So, money issues were always a problem. Plus when I moved out here I slept in my car for nearly 2 years. Always having to find different places to park and sleep, shower, etc. Also just making sure I could get something to eat at least once a day was a huge obstacle. There were many many times going hungry was the norm. Plus, I didn’t know anyone and my family had no connections in the film industry. So, I didn’t know where to begin. How to get work? How to get a goid agent or manager? Who were the right people to meet? Who were the wrong people to meet? Who was truley trying to help me and who was just a conman? But as I said, I refuse to give up on my dream! I believe in myself and even though I am not where I want to be yet and even though I have spent years climbing and climbing that road and overcoming obstacles, I know there are many more ahead. But, I also know that I’m gonna take them all on and I know that I will succeed. I will make my life long dream a reality!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dreamachine Productions story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is called: “Dreamachine Productions” and we are a production company that specializes in the producing projects in the entertainment industry including: feature film production, short film production, stage production, tv show production, commercials, etc.
Our company has produced past projects including the short film “The Red Oak” which has won numerous Awards, The short film “Ashes” which is just now hitting the film festival Market, the TV show “PWD Primetime”, and is now set for our first feature film production called “Proving Ground”.
I opened “Dreamachine Productions” along with producer Isabelo Pascual and Ashley Perkins. We love to find projects with a truly compelling and original story. A story that will not only entertain the audience but also connect with them on a deeper level and truly make them think. Storys that have amazing characters that actors would love to bring to life and that directors would love to capture.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
To me, this is a very exciting time in the entertainment industry. Not only as an actor and producer but also as a huge fan of the industry as well. Times are changing and now, we have Netflix, Hulu, etc. all producing their own original shows. Networks are still putting out fantastic shows and we are getting so many wonderful and entertaining films from both big-budget studios as well as independent filmmakers. I believe the industry will continue to put out wonderful entertainment to many different platforms and continue to grow and grow.
As an actor, I’m so excited cause this means there are so many things to be a part of. And over the next 5-10 years, I want to be a part of all of it. I want to show the world what I can do and be cast in bigger and bigger things, I want to bring wonderful and engaging characters to life for the audiences to enjoy, and I want to work with all the biggest and most talented the industry has to offer.
As a producer with “Dreamachine Productions”, over the next 5-10 years, our goals are to continue to produce projects we love that tell the story’s we love and that we hope the audiences love as well. We hope to be able to grow and be able to show our projects on a grand scale and be known in the entertainment industry as a great production company that puts out great material.
