Meet DTLA photographer: Min Huang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Min Huang.

Min, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I received my first digital camera when I was in high school, at that time, I just simply capture things that I feel it’s worth to be captured. And later after I graduated from high school, I was in an economy business college and having my second year of business study. I wasn’t so sure about my future life from what I’ve learned from business college. Until one day, the college held a photography competition, and I won the second award. At that time, I feel I opened a gate of my life, I never dared to think about to become an artist. But this little prize gave me a huge encouragement to explore a new chapter of my life. After that, I applied few art schools in the USA, and I got an offer from Academy art of university which is located in San Francisco, I had all the fundamental of photography over there, and later I transferred to art center college of design for another three and half of years of photography study. After graduated from college, I am a freelance photographer now .

Has it been a smooth road?
I feel as a female photographer, I adapt more sensitive towards the environment around me, which becomes an inspiration to my work. But sometimes the sensitivity is also my challenge because it can turn simplicity into complication sometimes.

Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
Not sure yet in this moment, because I think plans can’t keep up with changes.

What has been the primary challenge you’ve faced?
Trying to hear my own voice is sometimes the biggest challenge.

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Keep shooting, don’t let anyone else tells you what to do.
