Meet DTLA Makeup Artist: Mirna Aceves

Today we’d like to introduce you to charming Mirna Aceves.

Mirna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Makeup was always an interest of mine, even as a kid I would point out people’s makeup. As a teen, I remember stealing my mom’s makeup and play for hours, but I never really considered as a job until I was around 22 years old. A friend of mine started to do event planning and told me he could refer me to clients for makeup. I had no training just pure passion for it, so decided to go to school. I attended TNT Agency in Chino Hills where I was able to learn techniques and rules of sanitation. This gave the confidence to go out and book clients. Nowadays most of my clients are brides, but I enjoy doing other events such as fashions shows and photo shoots.

Has it been a smooth road?
The journey is bumpy, and many times I want to give up. More so because there’s a whole side to it that I didn’t learn in makeup school. The business part of it, so I made mistakes even burned some bridges, but with mistakes comes wisdom. I still show up to every job with the same excitement I had 8 years ago!

How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
I was an introvert child, but very creative. I loved participating in school plays and performing. At some point, one can say I was the class clown. Breaking the ice was the problem, but once I felt comfortable I was able to open up.

Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
Playing outside with my cousins and neighbors, I grew up in Mexico, but I used to love to watch The Simpsons and X-Files, and of course Mexican Soap operas. During my pre-teen years, I spent a lot of time trying to break down the makeup looks on my favorite characters.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would love at some point to have my own makeup company, I would love to have enough people under my belt to take care of big weddings. I didn’t have a mentor so I’d like to do that for upcoming makeup artist that want to get into the bridal business.
