Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sarmela Sunder.
Hi Dr. Sarmela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon and the founder of Sunder Plastic Surgery, a plastic surgery practice located in the heart of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I am also an educator and master injector with Allergan and travel regularly to speak at conferences around the world. As a globally recognized master injector, I have the honor to train fellow doctors and nurses on my advanced techniques. I love being able to educate and mentor the future generation of medical professionals and have also authored several book chapters, including a guide for plastic surgeons to prepare for the facial plastic surgery board certification.
I am frequently featured in the media to speak about facial plastic surgery and injectable trends. Some of my recent features include Allure, Elle Magazine, KTLA, Marie Claire and Real Self.
In addition to dedicating myself to my growing plastic surgery practice, I am also passionate about humanitarian work both domestically and abroad. I perform cleft lip and cleft palate repairs as well as ear reconstructions for patients born without an ear. I am also an active participant in Face to Face, a national program offering my services pro-bono to victims of domestic abuse.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been easy but every moment of my journey has been rewarding and I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. Having dedicated over 13 years of my life to studying the face and neck, I can truly say I am an expert in my field. I first studied at Johns Hopkins University and continued my medical education at Cornell Medical College. In addition to earning my medical degree, I also spent years doing extensive research and published several articles in leading scientific journals. I was then accepted to complete my residency program at Stanford University culminating with serving as the Chief Resident. During my residency, I had the honor to train under some of the pioneers of facial plastic surgery.
Throughout my career as a facial plastic surgeon, I had the opportunity to train and work alongside many remarkable surgeons. All of the challenges and obstacles I faced along the way have only made me stronger and more resilient and helped to shape me into the woman and physician I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sunder Plastic Surgery?
Sunder Plastic Surgery is a Beverly Hills plastic surgery practice that is dedicated to facial plastic surgery, facial rejuvenation and non-surgical aesthetic treatments. I am best known for my advanced facelift, neck lift and rhinoplasty techniques and for my patients’ natural results. As a master injector, I am also frequently sought after by patients who are looking to enhance their look through non-surgical treatment options including hyaluronic acid HA fillers, neurotoxin injections and various lasers and devices.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success can oftentimes be defined by one’s ability to stay focused on achieving his/her goals. The road to success can take time, especially when studying to become a Facial Plastic Surgeon.
I believe my success is not only due to my deep understanding of facial aesthetics but is also attributed to my devotion to upholding the highest level of compassionate patient care. I strive to represent a woman’s perspective which allows me to offer my patients a unique and exclusive experience. I also firmly believe in patient education and I go above and beyond during my consultations to give my patients the most informed treatment options for their unique needs and concerns.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be able to be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing support system around me. My husband and my two amazing children are my rocks. My amazing patients and dedicated staff continuously remind me of how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love every single day.
