Meet Dr. Richard Sprague of Dental90210 in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Richard Sprague.

Dr. Richard, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a practicing dentist in Beverly Hills, for 23 years. As the longer you practice, the more you realize everyone has a place or purpose. Mine I guess is to provide a beautiful pain freesmile at an affordable price. After practicing for ten years, I had a surfing accident and broke my working hand. While my hand healed, I decided to go back and do a second dental residency at USC and I became an Endodontist, which is a root canal and dental pain specialist. Prior to my injury I primarily focused on cosmetic dentistry. After becoming and Endodontist I started focusing on emergency dental care and I realized how many people suffer from dental pain and problems that only seek help when their cosmetic or dental issues become a problem or painful. In the past, prior becoming a specialist, I would need to refer these patients to other specialist help them with their pain or root canals issues. But after my second residency, the new training allowed me the knowledge and skill set to help these patients in one visit with no need to refer to another dentist for help but I was able to develop a One shot one visit business model. One visit dentistry or single visit dentistry became my new goal. By incorporating surgical microscopes, dental lasers, CAD cam technology, 3D technology we are able to give people smiles in a day, crowns in an hour all at a price that is second to none. 50 percent of all are patients, fly in from out of the state or county because it is more affordable to have their dental work completed in Beverly Hills, than their own state or country. My goal is to help anyone have a beautiful pain-free smile.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life, both personnel and business can always have obstacles or challenges. it’s how you respond to the changes in life that determine your new path, I have always felt that changing events are part of your destiny. As doors have closed ultimately, new doors often open. In LA so many of us have built our life on dreams Of becoming the next best. actor, producer, director, writer, makeup artist … the list goes on. We often realize in trying to achieve our goals we have to wear many hats just to survive week to week. I’m no different, I waited tables, bartendered, worked as a Chippendale, model whatever it took to pay for school and support my dental career. I ate a lot of pasta, ramen noodle and hoped not to miss my rent payment. But I must admit I always felt by working hard sooner or later something good would come out of my pursuit of being a dentist. After working in clinics, living out of motel 6’s up and down the state. I just always hoped things would get easier. People often say gross, how could you ever be a Dentist. My response, growing up without a dad. Having a mom who worked multiple jobs to take care of my sister and I. The dentist was the first man I met that ever had a job, that vacationed, and did not drink himself to sleep. The dentist gave me a focus to get a better life. I also am lucky I met my wife because of my career. She came into my office with a toothache two years after meeting her in Gelsons.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dental90210 story. Tell us more about the business.
My goal is giving everyone a beautiful pain-free smile at an affordable price. I Have invested heavily in technology, lasers, 3D and CAD cam to allow us to help everyone at an affordable. If 60 percent of us population only seeks dental care when there is an emergency, These are the people I hope to help. Those people in need to get out of pain, to give them a reason to smile, to realize despite my office being in Beverly Hills, there is someone who never makes their business decisions based off of money alone. Everyone in California or the US should be able to have a beautiful, pain-free smile at an affordable price. And the best with our office’s technology, We can give the patient a new tooth or a new smile in a day. One visit dentistry at an affordable price. Most of my patients are dental phobics, and they will all tell you to be able to get their needed dentistry done in a day is easy for a dental chicken.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m am very blessed in my current life. And it all is the result of me breaking my hand while surfing. my bad luck break led to a change in my business model. I went back to school for another residency, became a specialist in dental pain and emergencies, which helped me become a one visit dentist. But most of all, it allowed me to spend more time with my wife Allison. We often get so caught up in our own life and business that we forget to appreciate those special people in our life. We get so caught up in our own pursuits and needs that we can ignore the needs or desires of that special person in your life. My broken hand made me quit working and start loving and caring for something other than what I wanted. Having to stop a Career that had defined my life made led me to spend more time with my wife Allison And go figure 18 years and 4 kids later that person changed my view of life and how I care for people. I think having grown up in broken home relationships often scared me but the right person and kids made me a better health care provider. Marriage and fatherhood has helped me care for others better. It has taught me the importance of caring for others more than yourself.

  • a beautiful smile should be affordable
  • A pain-free smile should be attainable
  • And money alone should not determine your ability to receive help
