Meet Dorene Slavitz of Dorene Slavitz Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorene Slavitz.

Dorene, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was previously the owner of a mid-sized Retail business in an affluent area and have always enjoyed working with people. From my early 20’s I have owned several homes and investment properties so I always had an interest in Real Estate. It was a natural move for me to study further and obtain my Real Estate license. I started with a company that provided excellent training, and also offered some of the Realtors courses in Commercial Real Estate. I was surprised at how naturally the Commercial side was for me. Having been in business for so many years, I had a knowledge of the various commercial concepts already.

I am one of the very few Realtors who can work successfully in both the Residential and Commercial sides of the business although they are very different, they are both challenging and rewarding.

Has it been a smooth road?
Having come from a Retail environment the transition to Real Estate culture was difficult. In Retail camaraderie, and the friendly and open atmosphere of working with others in a similar field was quite enjoyable. There were many events where we could enjoy each other and many of us were friends for years.

Real Estate requires that the Realtor keep their business transactions and information confidential, limiting the free-flowing conversations and friendliness I was used to. The competitive atmosphere was also something I was not accustomed to. On the surface working in Real Estate appears simple to some, however, being successful is difficult and costly. Many Realtors who started with me are no longer in the business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I enjoy people and helping them meet their goals is what I love to do. I have gained some experience in the years I have been in business, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my clients. I am very pleased when a client makes a good investment that is a benefit to them in the future. Helping my clients avoid pitfalls is very satisfying. I bring a broad knowledge base having the Residential and Commercial information available to my clients. Both are important when making a big decision like buying or selling a home.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
You can’t beat Los Angeles for an active and vibrant Real Estate Market. My only caution for a new person would be that they obtain the best possible training and support they can when starting out.
