Meet Donald George

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donald George.

Donald, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From combat to comedy is where the bulk of the story begins. I moved to LA while still serving in the military in pursuit of a dream of acting and comedy. After 11 years of trying to manage both, it was time to let the army go. My thinking was “If I’m going to struggle, then I might as well do what I love”. Now I’m acting, working a regular job and starting comedy. Over the years, I’ve met dozens, of not hundreds of people. The pursuit of the dream is what separated people you happen to know, from friends. That’s when I came up with “Friends Don’t Let Friends Dream Alone”.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not only was the road not smooth, sometimes the road wasn’t there at all. Things happen unexpectedly, from loss to personal doubt, to questioning if this is even the right path to take. But as an artist, I’ve had to learn that if you can somehow overcome that obstacle, you can then use it in later work, bringing al struggles full circle.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Right now we make T-shirt’s, sweatshirts and hoodies with the slogan “Friends Don’t Let Friends Dream Alone” placed over the heart, because of what that statement means to me. More apparel will be arriving in the fall, and I couldn’t be more excited. This idea had been fully supported by friends, so it makes sense to work with my friends on these next ideas. This entire idea came together with the help of friends. From one friend designing the shirt, to another surprising me and buying the domain name ( to another friend building the website. That type of networking can never fail.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the city of dreams so it is absolutely perfect for the business. For someone just starting out, I’d suggest them spending actual time learning the layout of the city. Los Angeles’ city and county population are huge. For example, I’m from Cincinnati, Oh. Our population is around 300k, whereas LA is around 4 million! That’s a lot of space and people to navigate! Next, I would encourage everyone to make a plan and stay true to their plan; never forget their “why?” Staying true to yourself and your plan will place you in the company of people you need to be around, to build with.
