Meet Don $hel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don $hel.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Been in love with hip-hop since elementary school, like the classic stuff. 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and beyond. As long as it was some quality stuff, I’d gravitate to it. My cousin put me on to the classics (OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde) when I was little then he showed me how to rap when I was 10. I was dope back then (haha) but I didn’t take it seriously. For years I’d just freestyle with friends. Fast forward to my Freshman year of college (2014) and I rapped for my roommate who was kinda IG famous. He recorded it, posted it, and a lot of people liked it. Realized it was something I always wanted to do. Been taking it seriously ever since.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a rapper, producer, musician, and jut overall creative. Love every type of expression, especially film and music. I feel like I have amazing taste when it comes to what I like to hear, so I try to bring that same ear/energy to what I make. I’ve always had issues with anxiety, depression, and honestly just with paying attention. I want to reach and help people who may be going through what I go through. Not in a preachy way, just letting other people know it’s more common than you think and it’s ok. Other than that I just wanna make some stuff that’s jammin (haha). Like some real pleasing to the ear type stuff. Trying to put my name on that long list of Atlanta legends (SWATS!). And the list of Dirty South legends in general.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Don’t take breaks. Stay healthy and take care of yourself, but if you’ve got some momentum, take full advantage of it. It can only build you for the better. Also, don’t wait on anybody. Act like you have to be the one to make it happen. Not saying don’t work with nobody, just stay motivated. Drink more water

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have music on Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, and I have a YouTube channel coming. Just type in Don $hel on all those platforms. Keep streaming. Keep watching.
