Meet Dianna Stolpp of Bella Artistry in Inland Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianna Stolpp.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I feel like I have been doing hair and makeup all of my life. My senior year in high school I attended Cosmetology school through an ROP program. I graduated and received my cosmetology license. A few years later I attended MUDD Makeup and Designory in Burbank, CA. There I learned the in’s and out’s of makeup for beauty, print and film.

Originally, I wanted to be a makeup artist for the stars, just like every other artist. lol. However, I was a single mom and the long hours and almost free work made this a very difficult path. I worked everywhere I could. including music videos, short independent films and print. Much of my early work was found on craigslist, word of mouth referrals and from friends in the industry.

One day, as I was searching for work and I stumbled across a seasoned artist who was looking for help with weddings. hhhmmmm…. I had never done that before. Of course, I had done makeup and hair for friends going to weddings, but never really charged a bride to do her hair and makeup. So I thought I would give it a try. I absolutely loved it!! I immediately knew it was what I wanted to do. I loved the energy, I loved the excitement and being a part of something so life changing.

I knew immediately this was where I was supposed to be. I ended up meeting my husband at one of the weddings that I was assisting with. It was love at first sight. We were married 3 months after we met and are now going on 13 years of marriage.

A few years later, the woman who I was working with decided to move out of state. That was when Bella Artistry was born! As the years have gone by Bella Artistry has continued to grow. I would say 80% of our work is bridal and special events, however we always love getting in the studio. We have done work for KVCR, advertisement for Telemundo, John Elway Toyota, #Imomsohard. We have also been featured in blog such as, The Daily Wedding, Off Beat Bride and Something Turquoise.

I am looking forward to growing as company and as an artist and the surprises the future holds.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some challenges I faced along the way were initially working as a single mom and then balancing a career, with my marriage and family. There were times that my husband would call asking when I would be done, because my newborn daughter would cry for hours and refuse the bottle.

As a business owner, I find there is always something to learn. Sometimes succeeding and other times failing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bella Artistry story. Tell us more about the business.
I am proud of the professionalism, artistic sensibility and customer service my company embodies. We are a licensed business that has been around for over 10 years. I don’t think most makeup artists can say that. My company has contracts and policy in place for our artists and customers. We are proud of our punctuality and organization. Most of our artists are bilingual, English and Spanish speakers.

Bella Artistry currently has 10 artists and growing. All of my employees have been through makeup school, are licensed cosmetologists, or are seasoned veterans in the makeup industry. We also continue their education with makeup and hair seminars.

I also love that each one of our artists has a different style. Some do more natural looks, some a more dramatic “MAC” style, some airbrush and some have a hip rock-a-Billy style. So whatever type you’re looking for, we have someone to help you out!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I guess it was good luck that brought me to meet the lady that introduced me to the bridal business. Lucky that she scheduled me to do the wedding where I met my husband.
