Meet Dewayne Smith of Das Butta in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dewayne Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dewayne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Inglewood California, growing up I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do, I just knew that I wanted to do it big. In high school, I sold chips and candy and made good money for a high school student. Selling chips and candy in high school taught me great things. I learned that I wanted to work for no one, and I also learned the discipline of running a business.

Fast forward to my third year in college, my cousin Dasia and I would brainstorm on business ideas. We finally thought of something and brought it to life l, what would now be our natural Shea Butter company “Das Butta”. Our company is something we are very proud of I couldn’t think of a better business partner to have. She is the heart and soul of our company. Aside from our company, I also do photography and modeling on the side. I mainly model for my sister’s clothing line “Norf Clothing” and I mainly do photography for up and coming artist “Young Papi”, who is an artist from Milwaukee. It’s good to see how far I’ve come and it’s motivating to know how far I can go.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everyone has obstacles and setbacks in life. My biggest challenge in life was losing my father at a young age. I lost my father at nine years old, but growing up I always kept what he taught me growing up. He is a big reason on why I am the way I am, which is a great thing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Das Butta story. Tell us more about the business.
I enjoy the marketing and advertising aspect of our company. I like to figure out, how we can get our product in the next household, and how we can get our product in the next city.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe good luck has played a part in our business. My cousin and I are both deserving of a healthy business, so I believe the universe is working in our favor.
