Meet Devyn Schumacher of Devyn Leone Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Schumacher.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Devyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up my room was plastered with advertisements ripped out of magazines. I always thought that it was the advertising side of things that I enjoyed, so I went on to major in advertising at Pepperdine University. I love my background, but several years after graduation when I was gifted my first DSLR camera I realized it was the photography side of things that I was the most passionate about. After learning the basics of the camera, I took pictures of friends any chance I got. Once I was comfortable with this, I went on to start my business and here I am today! It’s crazy to see how much my photography has grown and evolved since I started pursuing it in 2010!

Has it been a smooth road?
Photography is a tough career, as is any path in which you are running your own business, so the main struggle is keeping a consistent income. Certain months out of the year are super busy, and some are dead, so learning the market and how to keep business going in the off season is a challenge! Other struggles (which can also apply to life in general) include spending too much time on social media trying to build a following – there are so many photographers out there and so many styles of photography that it’s tough not to compare yourself to others. I’ve had to take a few short, much needed Instagram breaks and remind myself that just because certain photographers edit one way, I don’t need to do the same.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Devyn Leone Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is Devyn Leone Photography. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Southern California. My style is romantic, bright and adventurous. Some of my favorite things to photograph are fun couples who are up for anything, whether it’s jumping in the ocean or popping bottles of champagne for an awesome photo, elopements, and maternity photos.

I am the proudest of how hard I have worked in the last year. I have learned so much both on the business and technical side of things, and it is reflected in my work and really fun to see!

The thing that sets me apart is that I truly do become great friends with my clients. I take the time to get to know everyone that I work with and think that this is one of the most important things that you can do as a business owner.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My favorite thing about LA is how much there is to do! There is never a dull moment… great food, outdoor activities, awesome people watching, and I love the fact that there are so many people here who are just going for their dreams! It’s very inspiring!

My least favorite thing in LA is 100% the traffic!
