Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Nicole.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I received the idea to create a superhero of color about six years ago. It took about six months for me to start creating Zara being that I was never into comics or superheroes.
However, when I started writing about her, I fell in love. When I started developing her character, the visuals came to me; including her name and her story. I knew I had to go with it. I moved to la and really made her my main priority.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With every dream, I believe there will be some kind of difficulties along the way. For me, it was patience and having the ability to trust myself. I knew that I embodied something great and I really believed in the visuals, but at times when things began to slow down I started to doubt whether people would like or take to the character and her story.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Heroic Icon Entertainment is a production company that specializes in producing comic books and tv/film. I feel what set us apart is that the company targets underrepresented people in the media, as well as people of color.
What were you like growing up?
Believing! Believing and trusting in myself plays a huge role in my success. In addition to trusting the timing and the process. Being persistent is extremely important, you have to keep pushing through the hard times.
