Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Katrina .
Devon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Santa Monica. I was trained in the music programs in Santa Monica all throughout my schooling. They taught me all about music and I found a profound love for music of all types. I had a deep fear of singing solo, and at age 16 I auditioned for an esteemed music program, but during my solo I lost my voice completely and started crying and ran out of the room. I started Latin dance at a young age at 11 years old and became obsessed, I have been dancing ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge I have faced is my own insecurities and fear of failure. But when I turned 25 I had a near death experience and I decided I’d rather follow my dreams than live life in the safe zone always, so I was faced my fear and have grown a deep love for performing on stage, it is like the best natural drug in the world.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a singer-songwriter and Latin dance teacher, I always design my own costumes and look forward to coming out with my own clothing line, as well as a featured artist. There has never been anyone like me, I am a multipotentialite an artist of many disciplines from music to Latin dance to fashion to set design to songwriting, I am a bachata and salsa teacher in west la. And I love bringing my art forms together of music and dance.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
There is no better place to be in the world as a singer-songwriter artist. Our city can improve by supporting young up and coming artists in as many ways as possible, there is an unbelievable amount of talent in Los Angeles just waiting to be discovered.
