Meet Devin O’Bannon of Black Irish Entertainment in Van Nuys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin O’Bannon.

Devin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my creative journey when I was nine years old. I grew up in church and played the drums for the choir, but I released I couldn’t create songs on the drums. So, I learned to play the piano. My parents bought me my first keyboard, that had only four tracks to record into. I consistenly used the piano, bass, drums, and some kind of fun melodic synth that brought it all together.

Fast forward…

In 2014, I moved out to LA from Huntsville, Alabama, after graduating with my degree in Composition and Recording Arts. While working, I found myself in recording studios and writing sessions almost every weekend working on music while building network relationships.

In January 2020, I made the leap to pursue music full time and now I wake up every day doing what I love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all!!! When I moved to LA, through the process of driving the 36 hrs, my hard drive was damaged and stopped working, so I couldn’t work on music for the first three months of being here. On top of that, I got married to my lovely wife Samantha, and then on top of that, the job that I came here with fell through. So, I’m newly married, unemployed and without my outlet (Music). It was a rough start to moving to a new city.

Please tell us about Black Irish Entertainment LLC.
Black Irish Entertainment is a one-stop-shop for artists to create from start to finish. We assist in songwriting, production, mixing, and mastering. We have the tools to get a song from its idea to completion and ready for release under one house.

I specialize in recording, songwriting, vocal arranging and production. I’ve built incredble business relationships with industry mixing and mastering engineers, who specialize in getting an artist’s song to industry quality sound.

I’m proud of my business, not only because of the process of building it but because it was created and has become a home for 20+ artists and creatives. I’ve created a space for artists to be comfortable, confident, and open which is the best space to be in while creating their best music.

What sets me apart from anyone else is my ability to pull the best potential out of an artist and their music. I love to see an artist’s joy surface after being able to pull their ideas out of their mind and make it real and even better than they ever expected it to be. I believe God gave me this gift for that purpose. Now I have built relationships with some of the most creative people in the industry.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have given it a bit more focus at a younger age. But other than that, I believe everything happens for a reason. So I’m right where I need to be.
