Meet Desmond Beristain of Festiie in Woodland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desmond Beristain.

Desmond, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Searching for your friends can easily turn into a game of hide-and-seek, which is fun for toddlers, but a pain for festival-goers. Simply put, the time lost searching for your friends often leads to missed performances and takes away from enjoying a music festival.

As festival-goers ourselves, we grew tired of spending time looking for our friends. We love going to music festivals with our whole squad, but we also love the freedom of wandering, exploring, being able to watch the artist of our choice, and meeting new people at these events.

Totems are cool and a huge part of the festival culture, but even Totems have their limitations. Countless texts being undelivered and weak cell-phone reception combined with being shoulder-to-shoulder in a sea of people makes it nearly impossible to find friends in a timely fashion.

That’s why we created Festiie, the first ever festival smartband, to optimize your music festival experience! With Festiie, we hope we give you the peace of mind of being able to wander, “get lost,” and split up from the squad knowing that whenever you want to reconnect, it will be simple and hassle-free.

Festiie buys you more time to enjoy in the moment and less time on your phone trying to explain where you’re at. Festiie allows you to stay connected to your squad and keep the good vibes going!

Great idea, but how do we make this happen? I had spent the last decade of my life playing basketball both stateside and abroad and had returned to the states to finish schooling and pursue a new venture (which ended up being Festiie!). I knew I believed in the idea wholeheartedly, but needed to balance this belief with an actual tech partner. A festival goer who knows how to code, so I called up my buddy who was finishing up his computer science degree and he said “I’m in.” So we began adding experienced pieces to our team and created our first prototypes to test at an actual festival. We filmed the successful test video and threw it on social media.

We were so thrilled to receive such a positive response from the EDM and festival community. Upon releasing our first prototype test video on Facebook (a video of us testing at Beyond Wonderland), we received a whopping 1.2 million views in about three days! At first, we thought we had been hacked, but upon verifying that this was real, we were even more inspired to bring this product to life.

And even though that moment was a couple of years ago, we are determined to not only deliver a product but the best product possible— we feel that the festival community deserves that. Made by festival-goers for festival goers. Once again all the received support is appreciated and we gladly invite any additional opportunities to speak with passionate festival goers who can relate.

This is just the beginning for Festiie. In the future, we plan on being able to make purchases with Festiie, receive exclusive deals from vendors, have an exclusive social network for Festiie users, and much much more!

We did this because we love the festival culture and the EDM community. Actually attending an event is only half the experience; who you attend a festival with and the environment around you is what truly makes the festival experience what it is.

Our goal at Festiie is to maximize the festival experience by keeping people together, keeping people safe, and allowing them to enjoy music festivals the way they should be.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This project has been fueled by passion, firm belief, and most importantly, the trust of our fellow festival goers and the festival community.

As a tech startup company, we’ve encountered plenty hurdles–from the usual tech hurdles of building an app, to the hardware process, and more. We wanted to make sure Festiie could cater and support over 150,000 festival goers in one location and through a ton of recruiting, we were able to add a team member who had proven our theory (which was huge!).

The first two years of this project was completely self-funded by the founders, which for three college students was not the easiest thing to do, but we truly believe in the idea and purpose of Festiie, so the sacrifice is totally worth it. From our local meetups at a boba shop to proving our concept, building working prototypes, pitching to investors, and receiving the support of the festival community–we’ve grown so much and are truly appreciative of all the ups and downs that the learning process entails!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Festiie – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are Festiie–a startup company made for festival goers by festival goers. We’ve patented a GPS device which allows attendees at massive events to stay connected without the need of cell phone reception, wifi, or data. Interchangeable and customizable stylish wearables that add to and enhance your event experience. Most trackers are bulky and require a long setup process and a ton of steps in order to function. Festiie is a SIMPLE FIX that can actually match and compliment your festival outfit!

In the future, we plan on being able to make purchases with Festiie, receive exclusive deals from vendors, have an exclusive social network for Festiie users, and much much more! We believe Festiie is the future of event technology.
