Today we’d like to introduce you to 007Bonez.
007Bonez, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I first started rapping back in middle school. I wasn’t taking it too serious back then, it was just something I ended up being good at and it helped get cool points around school. In high school, I was still rapping and this time I partnered up with my homie Monie. Together we formed a group called T.R.G.I.O (The Rap Game Is Ours) pronounced Trio. This is the time where I got my first studio experience. The studio was called 901 Studios in the Hickory Ridge Mall in East Memphis. The studio was ran by a guy named Mr. Cherry if my memory serves correct. Fast forward I’m in college taking it a little more serious with my friends Dre Cloud and Jay Denzel. Together we were the Troopers (TRPRS). Dre focused on the beats and Jay and I would do the rapping. Around 2015 is when I decided to move to LA and really pursue the music full fledge. Now it’s 2019 and slowly but surely I’ve been making moves around town networking and doing shows and interviews.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but I didn’t expect it to be. I had homies who lived in LA before me that were in the industry or around it that let me know it takes time to get the wind beneath your feet. With that in mind I try not to rush my decisions or get too anxious when it comes to my career. The only struggles I can think of is not getting in the studio when I want too.
Please tell us about 007Bonez.
My brand is built on cool. It is built on a fly Memphis lifestyle. If you’re looking for cool laid back rap you can play anytime this is what I deliver. I’m proud that I can incorporate all the things I like into my brand and present it through my vision whether it’s through my artwork or merch. Being able to have a hand in all I do is always satisfying.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had a chance to go back and do anything differently, I would have purchased all of my recording equipment before I moved to LA. I love working out of a studio but it’s nothing like working in your own space and pace. Other than that I wouldn’t change a thing.
