Meet Derek Warburton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Warburton.

Derek, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I come from a very humble background even was homeless for a time and I dreamed of the life I have today. I worked out, helped others, got lucky and fought for everything I am.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is smooth. I work 24/7 but it has become my life. Not only being in the magazine business and being on-air talent my entire life is an effort to make everything perfect.

Imagine you are having company in an hour and you throw your mess into closets and under beds. But in my life, you can see in the closet and under my bed lol.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the creative director and co-owner of Lapalme Magazine, creative consultant, on-air talent, I own Mr. Warburton fine Jewelry, style ambassador of the city of Los Angeles and the international goodwill ambassador for Just a Drop, an international clean water organization.

I’m known for all of my “jobs”. But I call it all my work. I have been an artist in so many different forms for all of my life, it just all feels so natural.

I’m very proud of Lapalme Magazine. In the world we live in now to put out a beautiful commercially viable magazine is unbelievable. Also, my philanthropic efforts make my soul happy. I am often asked how I have the time. I make it.

What sets me apart from the others is that I live and breathe my work. My mind never stops and I am constantly thinking about how one part of my business can help another part of my business. I spend my time coming up with grand ideas and connecting the dots.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My strongest business trait is perseverance. I will not stop. There is a quote about the great Joan Rivers describing her success. If you stand in the rain long enough you will get by lightning. I am willing to stand in the rain.
