Meet Denita Austin of Austin Ink Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denita Austin.

Denita, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The vision and dream started at the age of 15 years old. A desire to move to Los Angeles, CA was a huge goal. Originally from Washington DC, born and raised. I knew at a very young age that it wasn’t the place for me. Visualizing and dreaming my way through several jobs over the course of 10 years, it was never a good fit.

Whether it was the private sector or government jobs, I was craving entrepreneurship and I felt like I’ve done it all as far as jobs are concerned. I knew there was something missing from my life but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I had a passion for stories, personal stories that is, and people. I was always curious about people’s backgrounds, their personal experiences, and just authentic conversations. It felt like it took forever for me to figure out how to combine my passion with entrepreneurship. How to connect with people and learn more about their stories. I always had a drive for working for myself and creating things from my heart.

I became a yoga teacher in 2004 which allowed me to connect with people on a deeper level part-time. I was able to create some authentic relationships that ultimately created a career that I stumbled across. From teaching yoga, I was able to write a book that allowed yogis from around the world to share their personal yoga journey. Not only did this book open doors for me, but it gave me the boost needed to start a business and create a brand. From here, I decided to open a publishing company. Assisting women around the world with becoming an author and building a brand around their book. This idea and concept transformed into something bigger than I expected. I was able to move to California and build my brand one brick at a time. Let’s be honest, I wanted to move for the weather first but when I arrived, it was the dream lifestyle that my soul needed.

Our stories are so powerful that it literally inspires others to show up with their A-game. I encourage everyone to share their story in a book, at the dinner table, with a friend or loved one, or just because. Our stories transform lives and create a space of understanding.

Lets Connect!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Biggest Struggle was believing in myself and understanding that I too could have a transformational experience. I didn’t have much support with my vision and dreams growing up which I do believe a lot of dreamers can say the same.

Also, packing your bags and moving across the map with no friends or family was a bold move but there was a strong craving for change and I needed to push through the fear in order to see and experience something different.

Having several jobs over the course of 10 years could also be a heavy load to carry. I was searching for something outside myself and never found it. When I finally decided to look inward, the answers started to flow naturally.
