Meet Denise Poole of Flaunt Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Poole.

Denise, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Even though I’ve been dancing since I was 4, I never thought I would still be doing it today. I didn’t plan this, I didn’t foresee it. It was simply something that kept coming up for me in my life, so I decided I just have to go with it! Dancing has been an incredible force in my journey. It has awakened me to the power of intention, manifestation, and friendship. I knew I wanted to gogo dance when I went to my first super club in Europe in 2007. It was eye-opening!

Coming from the small city of Vancouver BC, I had never seen anything like it. One of the dancers they had on stage caught my attention immediately. Fishnets, big hair, wild makeup – she danced high above the crowd freely, and I thought “I want to do that.” I went back home to find out my grandfather had passed away, and it was only at his funeral I discovered he was also a dancer when he was my age. It saddened me to know I could have shared this love for dance with him but never did, so I decided to start a dance company to honor his memory. Flo-go, my first dance company, was born.

We changed the nightlife scene in Vancouver forever (I’m known as the city’s Godmother of Gogo!) We danced for Tiesto, Oakenfold, Arman van Buuren, Aoki, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, and many more. It was a special time for electronic music, and it fostered my love and passion for the scene. In 2010, I booked a gig in Europe and a few days later it shocked me when I realized mid-performance that I was dancing on the very same stage I saw that dancer on, for the first time back in 2007. It was surreal, magical. I understood that dreams really do come true when you follow your heart and let go of the “hows.”

When I moved from Vancouver to Los Angeles in 2010, I focused all my energy on my acting career and fought hard to obtain a visa to live and work in the US. As an immigrant on an O-1 acting visa, starting a new dance company was not possible until I was approved for my Green Card in 2017. With that victory behind me, I was able to officially start Flaunt Entertainment. The company has two branches – booking talent for events, and teaching gogo classes. I can now proudly say that Flaunt Entertainment is a team of LA’s best dancers, models, and specialty acts. We work with the most amazing clients and event production companies.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the things that are most challenging in this business is getting people to understand the value of an artist. People don’t think about how much time, effort, and practice goes into our work. Though it may look easy, it’s absolutely not. There are lots of moving parts and years of experience behind me that enable me to do this. I always tell my talent “do not undervalue yourself and work for low pay.” It’s simply unacceptable, we pour our heart and soul into our work.

Please tell us about Flaunt Entertainment.
Flaunt Entertainment supplies event entertainment for all events from corporate to private. We specialize in gogo dancers, models, and specialty acts. I have been booking talent in the nightlife industry for over ten years, and so my expertise makes for a smooth experience for all our clients.

The Flaunt Gogo Academy division offers gogo classes for all women. Whether you’re training to become a pro, furthering your skills, or just want to have fun while working out – taking gogo classes is the best way to sweat while being sexy.

What sets my classes apart from other classes is that I teach freestyle dancing, so you don’t have to worry about keeping up with choreography. I also focus on confidence building and body positive image, teaching women through dance to let go of mental blocks. And, It’s an Academy, which makes this a very special sexy one of a kind school!
