Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Hooper.
Hi Denise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Makeup Artist, Daydreamer, Traveler, Creative and shop owner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well since our last conversation a lot has changed. The whole world changed…right? The last couple of years have been challenging to say the least. The pandemic changed the landscape of our lives and also gave us the time to do a deep dive into what is important and how we want our lives to look going forward.
As a result, I am living a more thoughtful life and when I am not working, I am filling my time with meditation, yoga, friends, family, road trips and all the things that really matter…
Obviously due to the pandemic, I didn’t travel as much. I am really looking forward to jumping on a plane again. I find so much inspiration in discovering new places and finding goods for the shop. Next up Portugal.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Career ~I’ve been a makeup artist for 20 + years mostly in TV and I’ve spent the last 12 years in the Shondaland World. I am currently freelancing which leaves me more time to be creative on social media, develop brand partnerships, sample beauty products, research skincare treatments and curate my Shop My Shelf platform. I love connecting with the brand founders and getting to know their stories. I have three Instagram accounts and spend a lot of time (too much) making them all pretty!! Including @scandalmakeup beauty.
Side hustle~Daydreamers Wanted is my online shop and lifestyle blog. It actually started out as an Apothecary so it’s not surprising that I love discovering new brands. I have always been a Cosmetics and perfume connoisseur and a sucker for pretty packaging. I collected perfume as a kid and fondly remember handing out notes to all of my friends with the perfumes I wanted for my birthday!!

Which brings me to~
Travel~ My other side hustle @keeplefttravel It’s my absolute passion…even more than makeup~I love photography and I love curating lists of my favorite coffee shops, cafes, markets and boutiques. Lately, I’ve been taking a lot of road trips up the California coast and enjoying the small-town life. Check out my guides on IG.
Keep left came to me on a trip to Australia where you constantly see signs to Keep Left (I feel like the signs are for Americans). It’s also a metaphor for how travel goes…when you have a plan and it doesn’t work out or when you turned right or got lost and then something magical happens.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Spending as much time doing what you love + spending time with family and friends, drinking rose in the afternoon ….and sleep! Sleep matters~
