Meet Demitrius aka Highlife Little of Beyond Reality Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demitrius aka Highlife Little.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Demitrius. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in foster care. I never knew anything about my biological parents. My family and I lived in the heart of South Central Los Angeles, about 10min from the Slauson swap meet. Growing up in South Central LA comes with many life challenges from gangs to drug addiction to seeing prostitutes on my way home from school. Seeing those around me become victim to their surroundings. I used that as inspiration to be better. I couldn’t control the hand I was dealt but I could control how I played my cards.

In my younger years, I found an interest in music. I would use music as a mental escape into a better life. No matter what genre I could, I always find a factor that I loved. From Country to Reggea to Trap and then to Rock. I loved it all. Luckily for me, my High School offered recording and production classes that allowed me to educate myself and grow artistically as well as professionally (this is why I stress the importance of the arts in schools). I began to educate myself in FL Studio, Reason, ProTools. I remember selling candy to purchase my first Studio set up for the bedroom. I had to remove my bed to fit all of my equipment in. I turned my bedroom into a mini recording studio and slept on a futon. Passion had met inspiration and I loved it.

After some time, I started perfecting my craft. Through networking and fate, I would eventually meet LIA (recording artist) and her brother Nicky G (Sound Engineer) also (recording artist) Doub00. We would later create the roots for END Music Group.

Around this time in my life, I came into contact with my biological mother and was blessed to spend quality time with her. Through all of my life challenges music has always been there to inspire me. That’s what I hope to do through my music. I want to create sonic art, That inspires people to live in their gifts. My life has been a bit of a rollercoaster and I use that emotion, passion, and resilience in my music. After perfecting my craft, I would later produce my first mixtape, “Never Defeated” by LIA. I have many more projects in production. With each project, I become better at my craft.

Today I’m a business owner, producer, and sound engineer. Growing up in foster care and experiencing everything I had to go through to get to this point in my life is a blessing. I’m more focused and driven to succeed in my craft. Soon I will own a recording studio and continue to help inspire others.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Growing up in foster care in a lower income neighborhood can with menu challenges. I faced bouts with depression and anxiety. I lacked guidance and a support system to rely on, so I had to learn to be my own support system and where to go for guidance. I always used music as an emotional and artistic outlet for me. So that meant that I had to master sound production by dedicating my life to it. Sometimes that meant hustling for studio time and equipment. I remember being homeless at a point and I would sleep on floor in a homemade studio at a friend’s house. I thought it wasn’t that bad since I got to wake up to make music!

What else should our readers know?
I’m currently in the process of finalizing my business plan and making sure that my business has a solid foundation to build on top of.

My end goal is to have my own studio and mentors other at risk foster car youth.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparation. My philosophy is you have to always be prepared because you never know when the opportunity will present itself.
