Meet Demarcus Cunningham of #DreamsDoComeTrue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demarcus Cunningham.

Demarcus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2010, I lost my brother to suicide and in 2018, I lost my sister as an innocent bystander in a drive-by shooting. At the time, I was involved in sports. So I never had the time to grieve properly. During the loss of my sister, I suffered depression, anxiety, and I attempted suicide myself. I felt like I had no purpose here on earth and that all of my dreams and Goals were shattered. I always been a firm believer of God and faith. I told myself that despite your current circumstances, you still have the power to manifest your dreams and goals. Mental illness is something that is serious, especially amongst athletes. I want to shine a positive light in my community and inspire them to dream again! We often find ourselves searching for things that already exist inside of us. I want people to know that they are not alone and that they are stronger than they think.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth road. One of the main things I struggled with was being a college athlete. It was hard for me to remain focus on academics during that time. I also started going to counseling. It helped a little. But I had to find something within to inspire me.

#DreamsDoComeTrue – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
#DreamsDoComeTrue will soon be a non-profit organization that caters to the youth. It will prepare them for the future. Where they want to be doctors, lawyers, or even athlete. This foundation will provide the tools and knowledge to help them accomplish their dreams and goals. My brand is to inspire not only the youth but anyone who feels they need a reason to follow their dreams. As of now, I will be hosting different events in my community, such as feeding the homeless and youth summer camps.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to is happiness. I think in order to be successful, you have to be genuinely happy with yourself and your life.
