Meet Delia Douglas Haight of Vibrancy Agency in Venice Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delia Douglas Haight.

Delia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A native Angeleno, I spent my formative years in the warm sunshine of the San Fernando Valley. In my parents’ household, faith, service, community and advocacy were the cornerstones of our daily lives. And while attending school one of my teachers made a positively powerful impact on me. In my daydreams, I envisioned myself as an educator, being that positive impact on the next generation of kids like me.

As I was teaching by day, taking classes by night, doing odd jobs, running errands, and waiting tables to purchase textbooks and make ends meet. I became acquainted with a student’s mother who was an Art Director for a special occasion fashion house. Out of the kindness of her heart she offered me an opportunity to work in her office during my free time. With that opportunity and her unwavering support, I was able to gain some experience and make connections that helped paved my way in the public relations field.

As a publicist, I am the liaison between brands and media, news, celebrities, influencers and charitable organizations. Much of my time is spent making connections and “pitching” products and/or story ideas.

Something that I love about my career is that it has afforded me the opportunity to work with some incredibly inspiring people and socially-conscious brands.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are some challenges, one being that the PR and marketing fields require momentum. Frequently, brands expect to see immediate results – often in the form of sales – but most often, increases in sales take time. So managing expectations becomes a job within itself. Nonetheless, the jobs get done.

A challenge is that much of the work occurs during what in other fields would be considered personal time; likely weekends or after standard office hours.

Also, the field is highly social so one needs to make sure they make the time to unplug, recharge and regroup.

What keeps my job interesting is the challenge of making successful partnerships, securing valuable visibility and helping brands reach their goals.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Awhile back, I was invited to work with the With Compassion Foundation on the “Women In Compassionate Leadership” event, where the guest speaker was His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. His Holiness spoke on the importance, impact, and ripple effect of kindness, respect, gratitude and compassion.

In the Dalai Lama’s view, warmheartedness creates an internal landscape of peace and unbiased thinking.

According to the Dalai Lama, “Anger changes our mind. When [our mind] is disturbed, our wonderful brain cannot work properly. Anger is very destructive, not only for our peace of mind but also our judgment. The countermeasure for anger is love, compassion and kindness.”

His Holiness shared that the future of humanity lies within our children, as children are quite literally the future. Our hope for humanity lies in the hands of mothers, teachers and caregivers, as they are the ones educating our children.

If we all practice compassion on a daily basis, the act of compassion will spread. The global practice of compassion lies within the individual.

When His Holiness entered the ballroom, he walked right up to me, took my hand, looked me directly in my eyes, smiled brightly, and said “Ahh, Good Morning…”, and in that moment I saw my beloved Father in his eyes.

There has been no substitute to date to take the place of that beautiful moment in my career.
