Meet Debra Johnson of Makeup By Debra in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Johnson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been into makeup and fashion. After a career in Marketing and Advertising, I decided to follow my passion and attend Make-Up Designory, better known as MUD in Burbank. I took their Fashion Makeup Artistry Program. After I obtained my certification, I worked for MAC Cosmetics and Shu Uemura, then branched out on my own doing makeup for magazine editorials, commercials, clothing line lookbooks, editorials, celebrities, weddings, etc. Currently, I work for Hourglass Cosmetics and also freelance.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Changing careers and industries ended up being challenging, but with a lot of perseverance, I did make a name for myself.

Makeup By Debra – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a makeup artist that specializes in clean beauty, magazine editorials, and clothing line lookbooks. I’m known in the industry for flawless clean makeup. The thing I’m most proud of is my published work. It’s really amazing to see my work in print.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Seeing my work in print on tv commercials and working with celebrities. I’ve worked with some of the most amazing talents, and for that, I’m grateful.
