Meet Deanna Palmer of Two Little Monkeys Bakery in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Palmer.

Deanna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I was always fascinated with pastries, cake and anything else that had to do with baking. I always read recipes, watched baking videos but was always intimidated with baking. A few years later, I had my second baby boy and I ended up with postpartum depression. We had a one-year-old and a newborn so things got pretty intense.

I came across Liz Marek Videos from the Sugar Geek show and I was obsessed after that. Every chance I got, I watched her videos and started keeping my mind busy. It took me a year before making my first fondant cake and I nailed it. I was hooked from there and thankfully, my mental health got better as time went on. My husband and my two boys along with baking was my saving grace.

Has it been a smooth road?
Along the way, I struggled with my confidence when it came to baking and cake decorating. People loved my cakes but I just couldn’t see what they were seeing. Every time I tried to perfect it and it became overwhelming. Took me a while to gain the confidence I have now but once in a while doubt sets in but eventually, I overcame that demon.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a small family business with a home license kitchen. We make everything from scratch and bake to order. We specialize in custom cakes but are also known for our delicious pies.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel that our city is definitely a good fit for our business! We have a lot of people who have lived here for many years and they love to support local businesses!

Depends on the business but Burbank is a great city to start out if possible it’s a big city with a small-town feel which makes it feel like home!
