Meet De La Luz Sandoval

Today we’d like to introduce you to De La Luz Sandoval.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m Mexican American Artist. I’ve been creating art (drawing and painting) since a very young age. My parents nurtured my love for creating encouraged me to continue. As time went on my childhood became very chaotic and at ten, I entered into the foster care system. Going through this experience at such a young age, I felt my voice had been muted. Art became outlet, It was then started to document my journey. As a child, the images I created then were reflections of the pain I went through. As an adult, I’ve found healing and internal growth and my art reflect this and in that process, I found peace.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The creating process has been a wonderful experience. I’ve noticed many of my pieces have been influenced by what I was going through during that time. Early on, many of my challenges were due to lack of materials, I used what I could find. The real struggle was my mental health and being healthy and inspired enough to keep going. I really had to dive inward and push myself to not be lost in the past. Leaving the foster care system at 18 it’s a heavyweight. I was blessed to make it through those times with the love and encouragement from family and close friends. Over the last ten years, I’ve developed multiple skills in different mediums of art including; Digital, Oil, Watercolors and Clay moldings.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My brand is called DE LA LUZ meaning of the light, which is apart of my first name. I’m focused on commission pieces and i sale my original artwork on canvas and digital prints through my website contact through email. I’m most known for my live painting and murals. I’m most proud of being able to create art that is a direct reflection of my journey. It’s incredible to see others have the same connection with my art as well. Truly therapeutic to know we’re all connected. There a saying that goes “I Am Because you Are”. Which means whether positive or negative we are a mirror of each other. Being able to be a voice that reflects that is the greatest blessing. I create art to be a light of consciousness and healing for all… What sets me apart is the divine feminine images in my art and my original connection to my ancestors and higher vibrations.

Nariman Fadakar who help me a lot in college and in my early development years, as an artist he uses figures in motion in his painting which inspired greatly in my later work. My friend and local artist/muralist ElaPhante. My partner Britt Street she played a enormous role in helping keeping my dream alive. And to everyone along my journey, you all have played a part I love you.
