Today we’d like to introduce you to Daydree Horner.
Daydree, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Before MyOshun, I had a career as a performing artist but didn’t enjoy the fact that you could be talented and still not get hired. So I went into business for myself. I no longer wanted to be at effect of someone else when it came to having an income. Initially, when I started MyOshun it was a retail business with products that I created designed to draw focus to healing and empowerment for women. Many of the products were jewelry. However, once I discovered that I didn’t like making jewelry ALL of the time, I realized that it wasn’t so much about the jewelry, as it was about the concept – to heal the world one person at a time.
Prior to this, Reiki was introduced to me by a friend on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. I had a headache due to motion sickness and one of the ladies in the car placed her hands on my head to alleviate it. It worked. I was shocked because the only ‘tool’ I could see was her hands.
Being from Brooklyn, I’m a born skeptic, but it was clear that there was something to what she did, even though I didn’t quite understand it at the time. It would be years later that I’d decide to become ‘attuned’ as a Reiki practitioner. Years later after very little growth for MyOshun, I got a terrible ankle sprain in a dance class to which my doctor responded, “Whatever you were doing to attain this injury… you really shouldn’t do it anymore. This is a severe ankle injury, and if anything like this happens again, it could permanently change the way you walk.” As I laid on the couch, slowly doing painful ankle exercises in excruciating pain, I contemplated my next move. Also, I had time to utilize the Reiki I had learned on my injury. It was clear that I needed to move forward in that direction. I decided to go all the way with Reiki, eventually becoming a Reiki Master and Teacher. It felt good knowing that I could be a beneficial presence to the world in this way. It was well in my soul.
My focus was now on Reiki and building this business. It was going well. While all of this was transpiring, I met my husband on Match.com. It was quite the journey on that site, and I learned a few things. Then one evening at a ‘girl’s night out’ I was asked about my journey on Match. After sharing the entire saga of highs, lows and lessons, one girlfriend said, “You should start a matchmaking business and coach people on love! You’ve got a lot of valuable information here!” That resonated with me as truth. So I did it. I created my first program designed for meeting a love partner and added that to MyOshun.
As I progressed with love programs and Reiki, I noted the feedback from clients. “I really liked the talk we had after Reiki.” “You inspire me!” I felt the pull to learn more about counseling or coaching… I wasn’t sure yet. Eventually, I learned that coaching is about empowering others to find the answers themselves, not so much telling people what to do.
The former seemed like a more powerful approach, so I went with coaching. I became a Certified Life Coach. It was a perfect fit with Reiki, and I coached in love and relationships as well. The business hit its stride at this point. I was now teaching Reiki, added Couples Reiki to the menu, life and love coaching. This has further manifested to speaking engagements and working with executives and businesses to inspire them and coach employees.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I received bad advice from a friend, which I took – to enter a gift show that was 1% useful… I went $12,000 in debt because of it. I got out of debt eventually.
The main obstacle was to be patient and positive in the spaces between growth… called stagnation. The trick is to know that this is not stagnation, this is a period for meditation and creation. I have become a maven at being at peace with the ‘in-between places’ and making them productive.
MyOshun – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I coach with joy and a team spirit and I give Reiki with love. This sets me apart. I truly love people and I’m interested in their success, and they can tell. I remember as a child, the most influential and transformative people in my life and the ones that I recall the most, were those that were the most loving, nurturing and kind to me. MyOshun offers services that help nurture individuals in accessing their own healing, success, transformation and ultimate joy. I take a very personal approach to all that I do.
MyOshun offers Reiki, Couples Reiki, Certified Life Coaching, The Good Love™ Coaching, and à la carte Dating Services such as, Virtual Love Assistant and Goddess Party. All of these services are designed to nurture healthy, mindful relationships with more balanced, happier individuals.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as living Your WHY (which in coaching is your personal life’s mission statement) and being a beneficial presence to the world.
