Today we’d like to introduce you to David Paredes.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got my first job developing film at a photo lab in Boyle Heights, East LA. I remember the machines worked hard in the background while I removed 35mm film from its casing. I can still hear the lobby of busy photographers ordering prints from the latest Quinceanera from the park down the way. It was exhilarating. I had my first dose of what work was, and met people of different race, creed, and color. I learned so much from the people around me and how passionate everyone in the spectrum of this profession could be. It taught me the value of a photo, and how essential it is to capture the moments that matter.
Since my adolescence, I’ve pursued different passions. In my late twenties, I immersed myself into the world of digital photography. I learned new skills and got inspiration from my closest friends in the field. In 2019, I made a decision to put myself out there and start taking myself seriously. In just one year, I’ve been blessed to receive unwavering support from my family and friends. My time so far as a freelance photographer has given me the opportunity to photograph for Kennels of the International Bully Registry, real estate, and portraits of aspiring models.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting from scratch is always hard. However, with patience, perseverance, and a positive outlook, anything is possible. Challenges for my wife and I this year have been juggling our full-time jobs and finding child care for our children while running our business. After a lot of teamwork, we have been able to set aside specific times during the day to dedicate to photography. We are happy we had a humble start that helps appreciate the opportunities that come about.
Still & Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Still&Company is family-run. My wife assists me with planning and helps creatively in post-production. We enjoy taking on a variety of jobs to broaden our skills, but we love portraiture. In the San Gorgonio Pass & Coachella Valley we are known for portraits, but we also often serve clients associated with the International Bully Registry. It makes us proud to have had clients use our captures for logos, advertisements, and portfolio purposes. We believe our work ethic, humble approach and determination to please our clients allows us to continue forward.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success starts with the satisfaction of our clients. We look to exceed expectations and strive to deliver quality in all facets of our work. We take time to listen to the needs of our clients because without patient planning, there is no success. We also believe that there is no ceiling to success, we will continually learn new skills to implement and ways to meet the demands no matter where our photography takes us.
