Meet David Haffter of Fusion Sign and Design in Riverside

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Haffter.

David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Working for another sign company for 12 years I looked at what they were doing right and what they were doing wrong, really wrong. Thought we could build a better mouse trap, so we did. 10 years later we have been able to expand our company into Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Northern California with over 130 full time employees.

Drive, grit and motivation keeps our foot on the gas. Better, bigger and bolder!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The recession was a big test for us. We cater to new home builders and new multi-family construction so when the bubble burst we needed to bob and weave. Our greatest success has come from the best team in the industry, Great people have made this company the one to beat. We have had some bad employees that have hurt the growth of the company, We get back up and adjust to what we need to do and make changes. Being able to adjust on the fly and quickly has given us a competitive advantage.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fusion Sign and Design story. Tell us more about the business.
We like to say we are a visual communication company, Fancy way to say sign company, but we really do everything. Our focus is on the new home and multi-family construction. We have been lucky enough to have worked on some great high-rise projects in DTLA. It’s great to drive around and be able to point at some of our work in the neighborhood. Most of the interior signage in the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas is our work. The Chinese restaurant in the HR is called FU, it’s a 24K gold leaf sign that was hand carved by our team. Looks pretty cool. In 2015 we were lucky enough to bring home a national award for best signage for New Home sales.

What sets us apart from others is our drive and grit. We are constantly pushing to be better, pushing to have the next cool design be part of the skyline. Building something that people do a double take at is pretty cool, we want to be the best!!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Playing the lottery has taught me that I am going to need to work hard to get what I want. Nothing good comes easy. There have been a couple of situations that being in the right place at the right time has paid off. Now is that luck or just being out there, who knows. Bad luck is just the opportunity to learn and be better.
