Meet David Emenheiser of David Joseph Photo in Lancaster

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Emenheiser.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I found a love for photography as a teen in high school back when it was just film photography. Around 16 years old my life took 20 years detour. For 20 years, I battled drug and alcohol abuse which lead me down some pretty dark roads. From the time in jail to numerous rehab facilities. Six years ago was one of the scariest times in my life, I was found overdosing from heroin in a bathroom stall at a McDonald’s in Lancaster. To say this was a life-changing moment would be an understatement. I had to make a choice that day life or death. The next day I checked myself into the Ventura County Rescue Mission and decision that truly changed the course of my life. Today I have six years clean and sober, Thank you God. When I finished rehab, I found therapy in photography and my journey began taking photos with my phone. Fast forward to today and it has grown into so much more. Today I’m getting paid gigs to photograph amazing events and landscapes and truly living out my purpose in this world. I wanna thank My kids and my amazing Fiancee Darlene for encouraging and inspiring me to grow and learn everyday in my photography.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, it has been a really smooth journey. I mostly shoot for myself and go out and shoot landscapes but I will have weddings and events here and there. Photography for me is so calming and it allows me to clear my head.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about David Joseph Photo – what should we know?
I started my photography business to mostly shoot and sell Landscapes prints. But with the growth of my craft, I’ve been given the opportunity to explore a lot of different aspects of photography from portraits to weddings and aviation photography. What sets me apart I think is I shoot a wide variety of things and styles.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think coming from the life I have it gives me a bigger appreciation for life and people and I use photography as a way to help others who are struggling with addiction it’s just another part of my testimony.
