Meet David Caldera of DroneGiveAF Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Caldera.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my photography journey in March 2017. I purchased a 3DR Solo Drone, with a GoPro camera. I started taking aerial landscapes of cliffs, beaches, horizons, sunsets, etc. If it looked cool in the air, my drone was there taking a shot. I didn’t know what I was doing as far as editing, but I sure enjoyed it.

Months later I got in touch with an old Junior/High School friend I had lost touch with, @jfrvnco on Instagram, and saw he was a big-time street photographer. His amazing work inspired me to pick up a DSLR and explore that avenue. Countless YouTube videos later, editing hours learning Lightroom and Photoshop, I started attending Photo meets. I networked with other photographers, different LA models and I started doing portraiture.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Just like any craft, it hasn’t been easy. Learning new tools, meeting new people, and sometimes getting stuck in a creative rut. With the photography being so overly saturated, it is hard to do something without coming off as a copy, and unoriginal.

Please tell us about DroneGiveAF Productions.
My photography business is solely a part-time gig at the current moment.

While I am struggling for paid work, I do consider my work a jack of all trades. I have a grasp of just about everything, high fashion portraiture, bodeur, headshots, aerial photography, street photography, and landscape/cityscape photography.

The variety I can offer as a one-stop shop is what sets me apart from others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would definitely take it slower. Taken the time to learn the basics, composition, accurate lighting, correct exposure, etc.
