Meet Darrian Lilly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrian Lilly.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born Darrian Tareaisk Lilly in Florence, South Carolina on March 28, 1999. Really first generation with musical talent. Grew up in the church singing on the choir early at the age of four. Just grew up listening to different artists such as Ruben Studdard, Chris Brown, Lee Williams, Michael Jackson, and Charlie Wilson. My musical influences really cross genres believe it or not! I would say Chris Brown, Ruben Studdard, Avery Wilson, and Charlie Wilson really influenced my music wise. Proudly, can say I am a member of the best fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. shout out to all the good Nupes out there especially my chapter (Pi Omicron) at the University of South Carolina of Upstate. If I don’t do anything, I want to give a special to my Mom (Stacie Deberry) and Grandmother (Virginia Kirby) for not only raising me but also supporting and believing in me. It was times where I did not think times like this would come and they was quick to get me back on track. I thank you both!

Currently, going back and forth from South Carolina to Los Angeles working on music & visuals. While working with new mentors and my manager just working on the brand. Growing up in South Carolina really don’t have any musical opportunities so now that I am coming into my own brand I know this is what I am born to do! Currently, unsigned completely independent however potentially looking for a label. Just dropped my fourth project entitled “UNLOCKED” and currently working on a completely new sound with a team in Los Angeles. I am looking to connect with producers for production on my next project.

Has it been a smooth road?
Through this long journey is hasn’t been a smooth road! I have lost countless family members & friends on the way! One main struggle I faced was losing my close friend in high school due to suicide! He always told me I would be the one to make it out of a small town with about six hundred population. When I lost him, I then struggled with depression. Felt like the biggest supporter who believed in me was now gone. Others may have decided to quit but it made me realize he is my why!

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I specialize in vocals main but if I had to choose a secondary, it would be piano for sure. Eventually, I would love to be able to play multiple instruments and like produce all the sounds in my music. I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic and my ability to just listen to others. You should never get to a point where you think you know everything. It is always something you can learn from others!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about my city is just everybody knowing everybody. Majority of my city is family or close friends with my family. Therefore, if they see you doing wrong or starting to sway from achieving your goals. They are quick to tell you about your self. I love that!! What do I least like about my city is just really not enough opportunities for my generation of people. Therefore, you see many good kids who grew up in great family homes turn to the streets.
