Meet Darius Portley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Portley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Darius. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well it started in high school really I was in theatre arts class and just wanted to try something different instead basketball and football and I enjoyed not because of the girls but to be somebody different and I just held on to that and kept going. I got to where I am from asking questions and research and acting school SHOUTOUT to John Casablanca in Houston, for showing me the basics of what I needed to get started cause honestly I was lost and didn’t know anything on how to get started in the industry so they really put me on the right path and as time went on I asked questions and got more information and build a good rapport with people that I have met so far.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No it is not lol let me tell you man but chasing your dreams is never going to be easy especially now or days with everything that’s going in the world, it’s hard to get an agent in this business that you can really trust let along that would really look out for you for your best interest. Its tons of stuff I have struggled with I can’t speak for others but like your job schedule, the days of when they are going to start shooting, paying rent and bills on your own with no help it’s stressful but life is stressful in its self and if you really want it you have to roll with the punches as they say I went days with out eating cause I needed to save money for gas and bills, some days I just didn’t want to do anything but stay in bed, phone was cut off a few times cause I had to choose between gas or phone you know but I’m glad I overcame those obstacles it made me more appreciative towards life and my goals it pushed me to want better in my life and career.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Well I am an Actor, I want to specialize in a lot of genres that are out there of course I’m pretty sure other actors want to as well but I believe in myself to be great at everything I put my mindset in position to know that I can achieve anything that I work hard at and believe in. If I had to choose what I was known for is comedy I’m hilarious lol but I’ve been told drama suits me very well and I should pursue more drama roles. I’m proud of the person I have become I’m much more open-minded in a scene. I’m not afraid to speak my mind on certain topics and I’m comfortable with me, I know me, I know who I wanna be, and I know where I’m going. What sets me apart from others is my mindset and fearlessness I have grown into a person that cheers for myself when nobody else will, and I’m happy with that cause at the end of the day all you have is yourself and your happiness and I believe in myself so much that I know when I go to an audition, I’m going to book it I have so much confidence and determination that it’s scary lol

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family and my friends, my old and new co-workers, classmates, castmates, they have been such a blessing to me honestly they also push me to be better and to keep going they call me or message me on social media and just give me kind and heartfelt words on encouragement and at first, I thought you know they only saying this now but as time progresses they never stop sending me love and I’m very grateful and blessed to have those people in my life that really believe in me and my dreams. My cousins on my mom and dad side a few of my old and new co-workers, and my best friends James and Angela they have been pushing me to keep going and do more and branch out and be different and stuff like that so shout out to those people for being in my corner and just being there when I needed somebody.
