Meet Dao Lu of Dao Lu Gallery in San Gabriel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dao Lu.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dao. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since 2000, my family – my wife and my two children immigrated to Philadelphia, PA from Vietnam. As a new immigrant, I was facing new life challenges to support family daily activities. Since my children have to go to school and my wife has to take care of the kids, I found myself finding a good source of income to cover my family’s life in new circumstances the biggest challenge of my life. I had to put aside my passion for painting, not being able to do creative work continuously as it was before in Vietnam. Today, my kid graduated and has helped me take over the burdens to support family, that allows me to get back to my creative path, to fully devote to compose new pieces.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Certainly, it has not been a smooth road. Being the only person to bring in single source of income to keep family going is a very difficult and anxious hardship with many ups and downs that I have to overcome. Having to put aside all creative activities and do something else has proven the biggest challenge for an artist, including myself.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dao Lu Gallery – what should we know?
I’m specialized in water color. I’ve spent lots of my time in drawing flowers, animals, the human figure, and landscapes. I like to combine impressionism to make painting more colorful and brilliant, especially with my unique method of splashing color lotus to achieve special effects. The painting is surrounded by colors to make it into a new creative form.

I have to say that I am very proud of what I have today and that I have had a few pieces of art participating in some group shows in Los Angeles Art Association. That is what gives me hope and something that motivates me to be more creative and continue composing, to have a better, nicer, more unique work to contribute to the American art community. Of course, I also need your help and support, from journalist community to introduce my work to a new market, especially the Los Angeles community.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Persistent and deterministic.
