Today we’d like to introduce you to Danya Migdali.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Danya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started photography in high school – I fell in love with developing my own film and prints in the darkroom and dragged all my friends to the ‘coolest’ locations to take pictures. I continued taking photography classes in college, soaking up as much information as I could! I took a little break at the end of college and right after I graduated, but found myself missing the creativity and beauty that photography offers, I started interning under a photographer, learned SO much, ventured out with my own business and continue to take courses to this day to help improve my craft!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In this day and age, it is so hard to beat the comparison game. There are so many amazing artists out there, and when you start comparing yourself and your work to theirs, instead of just being inspired by it, you start to question yourself and your own worth. I have found that it’s so important to take a step back from Instagram, Pinterest, and other online platforms to connect back to yourself and why YOU choose to do photography. Balancing a growing business with the rest of life is also something that I’ve definitely struggled with. Learning to set in boundaries between work and the rest of life and learning to say no, have been huge game changers for me and I encourage every entrepreneur to adopt these into their lives as well!
Danya Jean Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Danya Jean Photography is a Ventura County-based photography business specializing in seniors, couples, maternity and families. I love being able to capture fleeting moments of magic between couples, between families or in individuals as they grow and find themselves. My favorite shots are those of authentic emotion- the little giggle as I have you go almost all the way in for a kiss and then hold it, the determined faces on your kids as they try and tickle one of their parents, the sweet excited looks between soon-to-be parents at a maternity session. Life moves so unbelievably fast, I aim to capture all the moments you never want to forget!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, the ultimate form of success is happy clients! When you come to your session, I want you to fully enjoy it. I want you to leave with a smile on your face and think back on it with fond memories. When you get your photos delivered, I want you to be transported back to the session and for years to come, remember the happiness associated with whatever life event brought us together. Clients referring friends and family is an additional form of success and I love to meet all the extended families and friends!
